About East Coast Environmental Law

The East Coast Environmental Law Association is a registered Canadian charity that operates throughout Atlantic Canada. Our mission is to advocate for progressive environmental laws and policies for Atlantic Canada, provide public education, and share our legal skills to support others who are working to prevent or redress environmental harms. Our work addresses many different issues that are shaped by environmental laws and policies in Atlantic Canada, in one way or another, all of the work we do touches on one or more of the triple planetary crises that our world is facing today: biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution.

At East Coast Environmental Law our staff, students and volunteers work together to:
• Host workshops, create publications and provide presentations on the legal aspects of environmental issues ranging from protection of at risk species, to climate change mitigation to wetland restoration;
• Respond to inquiries from the public about environmental law matters;
• Mentor law students on the role and value of law in the public interest;
• Publish open-access reports and summaries on environmental matters; and
• Collaborate with government, law firms, educational institutions and non-government organizations to enhance our understanding and make environmental law more accessible and effective.

East Coast Environmental Law is a growing non-profit where staff and board members work closely to meet and exceed our goals.
